ABILITIES. Magic ABILITY INFO. Emma has the ability to use magic, it's exceptionally new and untrained and based almost entirely on her emotional stability. So far she's been able to;
♦ teleport items from one location to another (must know where item is and where it's going)
♦ create fire
♦ create a magical blast of power
♦ heal minor wounds
♦ calm and sooth frayed emotions
♦ operate 'dream vision' magic
♦ make light shows
Unwilling to rely entirely on her magic Emma tends to fall back on her street smart brawling abilities, which although not trained in any large capacity, are more dependable than her magic. She knows her way around a gun, is confident in her skill and a very good detective.
As a product of True Love, Emma's heart cannot be taken from her chest.
Emma is a very damaged and conflicted woman. The foster system turned her into a very self-reliant, jaded young woman at a very early age. Emma learning quickly to rely only on herself and not let people get too close. The hardest lesson was learnt at the age of three, when the Swan's sent her back to the orphanage after having a child of their own. Emma was left feeling like she couldn't be loved, like she was unloveable. This was the start of Emma hardening her heart.
Since Neal; her one-time love, Emma has honed her instinct, building up her own code and trusting herself in every aspect. She prides herself on knowing when a person is lying, something she calls 'her superpower', and trusting nothing at face value. She doesn't allow herself to be jerked around, doesn't let anyone else make her choices for her, never asks for help and keeps everyone at arms length for self-preservation.
Emma is a survivor. She's learned used to being on her own, and her own life experiences have made her a sucker for the underdog. Against her better judgement, she will compromise herself to help those in need and fight for what is right. She's a firm believer that no one should let anyone tell them how to run their own lives, and that they should stand up for what they believe in.
For all that Emma pushes people away, she is fiercely protective of the small number of people she is close to. Since Henry found her, she's become very protective of him, even after she tried not to get close to him. She knew that he had a life that she was never a part of, since she gave him up. And while she wanted to tell him that she couldn't be in his life, there was a part of her that wanted to get to know her son, and that small part of her that just didn't trust the woman that adopted Henry. She's found herself growing more attached to the little boy who wanted a relationship with the woman who gave him up. There's the small part of her knows that maybe it's not right for Henry...but she can't help but feel attached to him. Emma, selfishly, wants to know if Henry can love her.
While Emma's let down her walls a little since coming to Storybrooke, and has actually allowed herself to start to let people in, she still has problems trusting people. She's used to being on her own, and still getting used to the idea of letting others in. Emma does have a small group of friends now, people she trusts, people she believes she can rely on, and is attempting to mend her own relationship with her parents, since the curse broke. Emma's sense of justice and nobility comes mostly from her new found position of authority, where people rely on her and look to her for guidance, something she's never had before, but is finding herself good at.
APPEARANCE INFO HERE
Emma Swan is the first born child of Snow White and Prince Charming; although it would take her 28 years to find this out. On the day of her birth, during a siege on her parents castle and the unleashing of a Dark Curse, Emma was bundled into a magical wardrobe with the boy Pinocchio and sent through the realms, ending up in the Land Without Magic. Destiny foretold that on her 28th year, Emma would return to save the people of the Enchanted Forest from Regina's evil curse.
Until then she would live without knowledge of her parents, or the land she came from. For three years she was with a family, the Swans. They gave her their last name, but Snow White had embroidered her first name onto the shawl she was sent through the wardrobe with. The only possession Emma had from her birth parents for her whole life. At three, Emma was returned to foster care, the Swan's were having their own child and decided not to raise Emma as their daughter. Sent back to foster care, Emma spent time in and out of the system, never spending long in a single house.
Until Ingrid. Emma arrives into Ingrid's care as a scared 15 year old, unsure of her place and knowing no one will take her on permanently. The boys already with Ingrid tease Emma, threatening to make her miserable unless they get what they want, intending to run away, Emma is stopped by Ingrid, causally telling her just what Kevin, the boy threatening her, is most scared of. Understanding that Ingrid is helping her, Emma stays. Spending longer than usual with Ingrid, Emma starts to feel a bond, unknown to her, Ingrid is making plans to adopt Emma officially, but as they spend a 'special' day together, Emma believes that she's being sent back. Ingrid asks her if she would like to be adopted, to be with Ingrid for good and Emma says yes. Later, however, Ingrid puts Emma in danger, almost getting them hit by a car, while insisting that Emma has powers. Scared and panicking at Ingrid's recklessness, Emma runs away for good.
Out of the foster system at 18, Emma turned to a life of crime, mostly. After stealing a yellow bug, which turned out to already be stolen, Emma met Neal Cassidy, who would turn out to be her first love and her biggest heartache. The pair lived out of the car, stealing what they needed and feeling at home with each other for as long as possible. They made plans to start over, start somewhere new with a real life and stop running. With watches that Neal had stolen and stashed that Emma would collect and fence, they would get new lives and start fresh in Tallahassee. Unbeknown to Emma, however, the boy Pinocchio was now August Booth, who blackmailed Neal into letting Emma get caught with the watches and sent to prison for a year. Neal left and Emma served time in jail. While in prison she learned she was pregnant with Neal's son. Knowing she couldn't possibly raise him, sure that she was unlovable, Emma gave her son up for adoption, not once looking at him or holding him and breaking what was left of her heart.
Upon her release Emma set about her own life, becoming a bailsbond person and hunting down bond jumpers. She spent two years in Tallahassee, foolishly waiting for Neal who never showed up before resuming her nomadic lifestyle for ten years. Her 28th birthday found her in Boston, chasing down a scumbag jumper. After packing him off she returns home to make her birthday wish, and her doorbell rings.
Finding Henry on her doorstep, who claims to be her son, Emma is thrown for a loop. She packs him up, all the while panicking about the ridiculous things he's telling her about a book and story people, and takes him home to his mother. Regina and Emma do not get along, and after Emma decides to stick around Storybrooke to make sure Henry is okay, befriending Mary Margaret and going along with Henry's stories of a curse and the Evil Queen, Emma finds herself working at the sheriff's department.
Its in Storybrooke, early in November that Emma once again meets Ingrid, this time called Sarah Fisher and running an ice cream shop. Convinced that her former foster mother is still crazy, Emma tries to call the sheriff before Ingrid uses a stone to pull out all of Emma's memories of her. This leaves Emma unaware of who Ingrid is, other than just another displaced fairytale land person.
Having grown close to Graham, the sheriff, she is decidedly upset when he dies of an apparent heart attack. Emma takes on being Sheriff and grows more and more distrusting of Regina. Her friendship with Mary Margaret is strained when the schoolteacher is accused of murdering her love rival, Katherine, but Emma holds fast in her belief that Mary Margaret didn't do it and fights to prove her innocence. This further angers Regina to the point of poisoning Emma with an apple turnover with the last. However Henry eats it instead and Emma and Regina come to blows as Henry is dying from the sleeping curses' effects in the Land Without Magic. With the truth out, Emma has to defeat a dragon in order to save Henry.
When Mr Gold double crosses her, Emma says a tearful goodbye to Henry before kissing his forehead. As a True Love's Kiss is known to break all curses, this shatters the curse Regina cast and all of the Enchanted Forest people remember their lives once more and Henry awakens.
Reunited with her parents Snow White and Prince Charming, who are now Mary Margaret and David Nolan, Emma struggles with the change in Storybrooke, and the fact that she has a family who want to be involved in her life. Through an adventure in the Enchanted Forest with Mary Margaret, Emma begins to bond with her mother, fighting a giant with Captain Hook and then escaping back to Storybrooke using a portal. She then hits the dilemma of Neal re-entering her life, this time with a fiancée and as Mr Gold's son. Trying to figure out what it is about Neal's fiancée she doesn't trust and stop Cora from whatever scheme she's trying, Emma and Neal have another heartbreaking goodbye as he is apparently shot and falls into a portal, leaving Emma behind again. Tamara and Greg then kidnap Henry to Neverland, where Emma, Snow, Charming, Regina, Gold and Hook follow, planning to rescue Henry and bring him home.
Neverland is fraught with danger, and Emma has to start using her powers while relying on an unlikely person in Hook to get her through losing both Neal and her son in a matter of days. Spending an unknown time traipsing through the deadly jungle playing Pan's games, under attack and looking for Henry before Pan can use him to his own ends. During this time an attraction sparks between Hook and Emma, although the latter cannot let herself focus on it, reaffirming her walls to keep from getting hurt. Finding Neal alive in the jungle just adds to the problems, and Emma finds herself admitting that she'd wished he was dead so that she could move on.
Finding Henry after he'd given his heart to Pan, the group need to save Henry's heart -since he has the heart of the truest believer, and stop Pan from becoming more powerful and taking the magic of Neverland. Rumplestiltskin traps Pan in a box, while Emma and Regina reclaim Henry's heart and they begin their return to Storybrooke on the Jolly Roger. However, Pan isn't as contained as they think and somehow manages to trap Henry in his body while he takes over Henry's, still planning on gaining power.
In Storybrooke, Pan uses Henry's bond with Regina to discover where the first Dark Curse is hidden and plans to cast it over Storybrooke again. While Emma avoids Hook and Neal she notices something largely unusual about Henry and discovers that Henry is actually in Pan's body, trapped in Mr Gold's box. Freeing Henry, getting them back in their own bodies, the group are too late to stop the curse being cast. Mr Gold sacrifices himself for them all to stop Pan but the curse is already about to wipe everyone's memories. In an attempt to save everyone, Regina decides to recast her own curse, which will send everyone back to the Enchanted Forest, except Emma and Henry. Giving them false memories of a happy life together, Emma and Henry leave everyone in Storybrooke behind, starting their own lives in New York.
A year later, a strange man in pirate clothes kisses Emma on her doorstep. She knees him in the balls and slams the door.
Emma's life in New York since leaving Storybrooke had been decidedly normal, something she greatly enjoyed, but with Hook's arrival and the questions he brings, Emma's curiosity gets the better of her. Deciding to trust him, she drinks the potion he offers her, one that returns her memories to her giving her dual memories of her life and the fake one she lived with Henry in New York. Opting not to tell Henry the truth, Emma lies and says they're going to Storybrooke so that she can help a friend. When they arrive, Emma finds that no one remembers the last year they spent in the Enchanted Forest and that her mother is at least eight months pregnant.
Piecing together the missing year, the group come to learn about Zelena, Regina's older half sister, who wanted to wipe Regina from history so that she could have everything that Regina did, things she believed should've been hers. Zelena plans to travel back in time, stop Regina from ever being born and in doing so also wipe out Snow White, Emma and Henry. Unable to find Neal, Emma keeps Henry in the dark about who he is and what Storybrooke really is, meaning that he doesn't really know anyone in town. During this time Hook and Emma continue to grow closer, although Emma intends on returning to New York with Henry once everything is over. Learning how to use her magic properly, Emma is believed to be powerful enough to stop Zelena, to battle this, Zelena curses Hook's lips and tells him that if he doesn't kiss Emma and remove her powers, she'll kill all of Emma's family. In a bid to protect Emma, Hook begins to pull away.
Ultimately, Zelena gets what she wants, when Snow goes into labor, the group rush her to the hospital, Hook and Emma go looking for Mr Gold, who appeared to share existence with Neal until Neal died, at the farm where Zelena was hiding, the witch ordered Gold to drown Hook, leaving Emma unable to save him unless she gave him CPR. Emma did, saving Hook but losing her powers. While Hook and Emma were at the farm, Zelena attacked the hospital, stealing Emma's newborn little brother in order to complete her goal of time travel. Finding her, Emma, Hook, Charming, Robin Hood and Regina stopped Zelena, with Regina proving able to use white magic to defeat Zelena and reclaim her heart.
Emma still intended on going home to New York, until Zelena's curse was activated by Gold killing her in her cell and Hook and Emma was sucked into the time portal and transported to the Enchanted Forest, where Snow White and Charming had yet to meet and Emma risked not existing if she didn't reunite the pair. Trying to infiltrate the castle, Emma is taken prisoner, while Hook goes to find Charming and Snow, to convince them to help him rescue Emma. Together they break into the castle, just as Emma and Maid Marian are breaking out. However sometime during this Snow White had left to go kill Regina, ending up captured herself. The group come across the courtyard just in time to see Snow White being burned alive.
Distraught at the death of her mother, Emma realises just how much family means to her, and how for so long she'd been a stranger to her mother, when it was revealed that Snow cheated death, using a potion to turn herself into a bug and escape, Emma has a renewed sense of hope. After setting Snow and Charming up on the path towards true love, Hook and Emma return to Rumplestiltskin in order to find a way home. Locked in his vault, Emma expresses her desire to return home, triggering her magic to return once more and open a portal home. Embracing the family she has, Emma agrees to remain in Storybrooke, since that's where she belongs. Emma also begins to embrace the chance of a relationship with Hook.
The peace is short lived, however, as Hook and Emma unwittingly brought an urn through the portal with them, one that held Elsa, an Ice Queen from Arendelle, trapped inside. Lost, unsure and scared, Elsa creates an ice wall on the outskirts of town and an ice monster that stumbles through the forest, almost killing the camp of Merry Men in the forest. Emma discovers that Elsa is looking for her sister Anna and doesn't know how she ended up in the urn. Emma vows to help her.
Together they search for Anna, discovering another ice powered witch in town, the Snow Queen who also happens to be Ingrid. While neither Elsa nor Emma appear to have memories of Ingrid, she seems to know them. As Emma's powers grow, she becomes more worried about hurting her loved ones, something that Ingrid exploits, by telling Emma they will always fear her because they don't understand her. Emma comes close to giving up her powers, something that Mr Gold encourages, as he wishes to use Emma's power to separate himself from the Dagger. Elsa manages to convince Emma that she can control her powers if she doesn't fear them herself. Embracing her magic, Emma does just that and begins to better understand her capabilities. Angered at losing the chance to steal Emma's power, Mr Gold steals Hook's heart.
When the group finally find Anna, they discover that it was she who trapped Elsa in the urn, because Ingrid used the power of shattered sight on the girl. With a shattered mirror, Ingrid is able to bring the darkness out in all those around them, until they destroy each other. Emma and Elsa were able to escape such a thing because of the magical ribbon given to them in a bid to seal them as Ingrid's new sisters. Knowing that they would have to kill Ingrid to stop her, the pair went to her castle but found themselves unable to do so. At the same time Anna found a scroll that was lost at sea, written by Anna and Elsa's mother, Ingrid's sister, to tell them about Ingrid and to return the memories of Ingrid to the people Gerda had taken them from. With the revelation that her sisters truly loved her, Ingrid sacrificed herself to save the town and stop the magic, returning the memories Elsa and Emma should have had of her.
With Elsa and Anna leaving through the portal back to Arendelle, Emma and Mary Margaret found out that Gold lied about not knowing Anna and Elsa, since he orchestrated a lot of their adventure with Ingrid in Arendelle years prior then stole the urn containing Elsa. Finding Gold at the clock tower, about to crush Hook's heart, Gold was stopped by Belle who had discovered his real dagger and took him away to discuss his lies. Taking Hook to Granny's, Emma returns his heart to him so that his will is entirely his own again, relieved that everything turn out, Hook reminds Emma that he's a survivor.
